Held at the Sydney Sofitel Darling Harbour on the 16th December 2021, the day and evening events were a magnificent highlight of Australia's complementary medicines industry calendar.
Ending a challenging year impacted by the worldwide pandemic, the CMA team was delighted to host this important in-person event at the Sofitel in Sydney's Darling Harbour.
2021 CMA 22nd Annual Industry Awards Winners:
LADY CILENTO AWARD: Dr Lesley Braun
The Australian complementary medicines industry's most prestigious Award, the Lady Cilento Award, honours an individual's lifetime achievement and outstanding contribution to our sector and community.
This accolade was awarded to the incredibly deserving Dr Lesley Braun; Researcher, Academic and Author who is tirelessly committed to educating health professionals about the benefits of nutritional supplements and herbs and to equipping consumer with the accurate, practical and applied knowledge they need to make insightful choices about their own health.
SOCIAL SELLING AWARD: Herbalife Nutrition.
Supported by Direct Selling Australia, this important CMA award recognises excellence demonstrated by an organisation that provides quality complementary medicines to consumers via the vibrant direct selling sales channel.
The judges were most impressed with Herbalife Nutrition's holistic approach and focus on education and empowerment. They particularly noted the great use of social media with the challenge. They were impressed with the Body Transformation Challenge focusing on Covid Kilos.
MOST OUTSTANDING MARKETING CAMPAIGN: Ethical Nutrients for Live Life Resilient.
This Award recognises the complementary medicines industry's best marketing campaign. It is awarded based on the strength and relevance of the message for the stated target audience together with credible imaging of the product or service reflected by the campaign, its duration and the campaign's commercial success.
This iconic marketing campaign used real women that resonated with consumers. The great imager supported the execution of the campaign and had a holistic approach across a range of product categories, including muscle, sleep immune and energy. The campaign championed inclusivity and critical messages of owning your health and doing it my way, coming through strongly. Read more here
MOST OUTSTANDING MARKETING CAMPAIGN (HIGHLY COMMENDED): Fusion Health
Judges wanted to acknowledge the fantastic Wintering Well Campaign focused on bolstering immune health in the colder months with a practical ideas from the Wintering Well Health Hub.
THE ULTRALABELS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR: Factors Group Australia
This award celebrates the company that has made the most significant contribution to the complementary medicines industry throughout the past year.
The judging panel was impressed with the farm to finished product approach – and the focus on sustainability in manufacturing. Not only does the company manufacture for themselves, but the Factors Group also support the manufacture of private label products. Judges appreciated the 50 new innovative products they have brought to market.
VINCE RUSSELL RETAILER OF THE YEAR AWARD: Chemist Warehouse
Honouring the most outstanding complementary healthcare industry retailer, this Award celebrates a retailer's creativity and innovation. It marks a positive contribution to both the community and our industry.
Chemist Warehouse rose to the Covid challenge and took this award by transforming delivery times from three weeks to three hours for nearly 200,000 orders.
THE TRANSCHEM EXPORTER OF THE YEAR AWARD: Swisse Wellness
This accolade recognises excellence demonstrated by a CMA Member engaged in international business. It marks the achievement of sustainable growth through innovation and commitment to exporting.
Swisse Wellness impressed the judges with the Singles Day Celebration sales in China. They are the number one health products brand for all five of China's largest e-commerce platforms.
THE BJP LABORATORIES QUALITY RAW MATERIAL SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR: TransChem
This Award recognises the complementary medicines industry's quality raw material supplier of the year, who supply supported products. The winner is highly respected by industry partners.
TransChem is one of the oldest independent Australian owned raw material suppliers. Judges were impressed with the Customer testimonials and their excellence in Customer service.
TSI INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD: Ferngrove Pharmaceuticals
This Award recognises excellence demonstrated by a CMA Member who has successfully applied new ideas within their business to create value and drive performance.
The Innovator of the Year Award celebrates the launch of the company's vegan capsules made from 100% natural starch. Ferngrove Pharmaceuticals is the first to produce a wide selection of new formulations based on non-GM plant-based soft gels from natural ingredients. This innovation will allow more of us to meet the needs of the growing number of vegetarian and vegan consumers.
INDUSTRY CONTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR: Professor Jon Wardle
This award honours and recognises an individual or team's consistent, dedicated contribution to advancing and promoting any aspect of the complementary medicines industry.
Professor Jon Wardle is the foundation Director of the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine and Chair of Naturopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University.
Jon Wardle leads several World Federation of Public Health Association and World Health Organization initiatives on integrative medicine. Notably, he is the deputy of the National Health and Medical Research Council's Natural Therapies Working Committees. He is dedicated to bringing back rebates for natural health practitioners.
JUDGES' CHOICE AWARD: SFI Health Home of Flordis
This accolade is awarded an outstanding nomination that showcases our industry's very best but may not fit in the criteria for other awards.
SFI Health, the Home of Flordis, was congratulated for their innovative Menopause Hub. With stories from real women, the hub provides practical, credible information with an educational approach for consumers. An e-book is available, and the easy-to-use hub offers a holistic approach on the important subject of menopause.
THE DSM SUSTAINABILITY AWARD: Lipa Pharmaceuticals
This prestigious award recognises organisations that execute initiatives that demonstrate leadership, commitment and innovation in sustainability.
A genuinely excellent award submission highlighted Lipa's commitment to the environment, putting sustainability at the heart of manufacturing operations. The judges were impressed with the new environmental governance was and resource management delivering energy-saving and the financial investment for the future.
WHOLESALER/DISTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR: Pharmako Biotechnologies
This Award honours the Wholesaler or Distributor that has made the most significant contribution to the complementary medicines industry over the past 12 months.
A true Australian success story, Pharmako is the only company to win an Innovation of the Year honour at the Nutra-Ingredients awards. This award recognises the new ingredient formats that the company is bringing to the Australian market.
MOST OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO RESEARCH & EDUCATION: Marcus Blackmore, Blackmore Foundation
This award honours the most outstanding contribution or breakthrough by an individual or team in education, research or training for the advancement and benefit of the complementary medicines industry.
A true legend of our industry, Marcus is the powerhouse behind the National Institute of Complementary Medicines and their new home in Westmead Medical Precinct. He is a massive supporter and contributor to the new National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine at Southern Cross University in Lismore. He is a Chair at Sydney University and the Jacka Foundation. We honour his lifelong commitments to the advancement of natural health.

THE INSURANCE MADE EASY YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR AWARD: Dr Michael Osiecki
This brand-new Award applauds young individuals and recognises the importance of ensuring that we acknowledge and celebrate exceptional people for today and our future. Managing Director of Bio Concepts, Michael Osiecki, is passionate about driving Education and Awareness on the Science of Supplements. Dr Osiecki is a CMA Board Director and Chairs the Export and Industry Development Committee.
DIGITAL COMMERCE AWARD: Find My Appointments
The second of two new awards, this accolade celebrates the best in digital commerce excellence, recognising innovation, creativity, engagement and success.
Launched in 2021, Find My Appointments is a genuinely innovative practice management solution for practitioners that will revolutionise their practice making it easier for patients.
