As 2025 draws to a close, we are reflecting on what’s been a milestone year for the complementary medicines industry and for CMA. Here’s a quick look at some of what we’ve accomplished together this year…
Delivered real outcomes and advanced regulatory reform
It was a very big year on the regulatory front, and CMA worked closely with the TGA across dozens of consultations and working groups, and led engagement with the TGA on many important issues.
Through strong advocacy and deep engagement, we significantly decreased the impact of proposed labelling restrictions on large tablets and capsules. We led the securement of an extra year of market exclusivity for ingredients by working with TGA and other industry associations.
We engaged significantly with TGA on a range of probiotic issues and continued driving the TGA for improvements to labelling requirements, how new permitted indications are assessed, how quality standards are applied, flexibility on evidence assessment, and a wide range of other regulatory issues. We were particularly pleased to obtain TGA agreement on a future Regulatory Forum for industry members.
Shared knowledge and insight
Throughout the year, CMA continued to equip members with relevant, timely and practical information to support their work. We published dozens of regulatory and advocacy updates, launched new tools and resources, and hosted expert webinars on key issues like competition law and modern slavery obligations.
We also continued to raise the profile of our industry, championing its value with policymakers, in the media and through high-impact communications that tell the story of our members’ impact on health and wellbeing.
Launched our first ever Regulatory Outcomes Report
In June, we launched the Regulatory Outcomes Report, showcasing 18 months of CMA’s work in advocacy, engagement and regulatory reform. It’s a detailed look at how we’re driving a strong, science-based regulatory environment that supports innovation, growth and access to high-quality products.
Brought the industry together
We know how much our members value our events, so this year we grew them even more. In May, our largest-ever Innovation Day explored the theme The Science of Self-Care. We also held our biggest Annual Conference and Industry Awards to date, filling the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in November.
And for the first time, we launched a series of CMA networking events, bringing our community together in Melbourne and Brisbane for connection, conversation and collaboration. These were a huge success and will be back in 2026!
Launched and even bigger Industry Snapshot
In November, we proudly released the CMA Industry Snapshot 2025– our flagship report showcasing the size, scale and strength of Australia’s complementary medicines sector. Bigger than ever, it’s packed with insights, data and trends to help inform stakeholders, support advocacy, and highlight the growing role of complementary medicines in preventive health.
The Industry Snapshot continues to be one of our most powerful tools for visibility and impact, and we’re proud to share the story it tells.
Took Australian product excellence and innovation to the world
With exports now exceeding $1 billion annually, showcasing Australian excellence on the global stage is more important than ever. In 2025, CMA once again proudly hosted the Australia Pavilion at Healthplex in Shanghai.
We also supported member presence and attendance at major trade shows, conferences and expos across Asia, Europe and the United States. Demand for trusted, high-quality products continues to grow, and we’re proud to help position Australia as a global leader in complementary health. Next year we’ll be doing even more to support export growth and diversification.
Celebrated a major win – natural therapy rebates return
CMA advocacy helped deliver a huge policy milestone in 2025 — the removal of the ban on private health insurance rebates for many natural therapies. This is a win for consumers, a step forward for evidence-based care, and a strong signal that complementary health is essential to the future of preventive care in Australia.
Strengthened industry sustainability leadership
In 2025, we continued to support members on the path to a more sustainable future, helping our sector align with climate goals and strengthen environmental resilience. We released two major member-exclusive resources – the CMA Guide to Decarbonisation and the Supplier ESG Questionnaire. These are designed to help businesses reduce emissions, improve supply chain transparency and prepare for Australia’s evolving climate disclosure landscape.
We also delivered a dedicated Modern Slavery webinar for members, providing practical guidance on identifying, assessing and managing modern slavery risks within complex global supply chains.
Our members make it all possible
Everything we do at CMA is driven by and for our members, and we’re proud to represent such a passionate, engaged and growing community. In 2025, we welcomed 28 new members into the fold, strengthening our collective voice and expanding the breadth of expertise across the sector.
And our members don’t just sign up – they show up. They join our committees, contribute to submissions, attend our events, share their insights, and advocate for our industry’s future. Their commitment and collaboration is what makes CMA’s work possible, and what ensures we remain a strong, united voice for complementary medicines in Australia.
