The Australian complementary medicines industry is today mourning the loss of one of its most influential and respected pioneers, with the passing of Henry Osiecki, founder of Bio Concepts and a lifelong champion of nutritional medicine. Henry leaves behind a remarkable legacy of innovation, education and passion for improving human health.
For over 40 years, Henry was a driving force in transforming the way practitioners view and use nutritional medicine. He played a pivotal role in shifting the industry from a pharmaceutical model to a nutritional one, bringing a deeper understanding of biochemical individuality to patient care. In 1984, he co-founded Bio Concepts, launching practitioner-only formulations that set new standards for quality, purity, and transparency in the Australian market.
Henry was responsible for introducing several groundbreaking nutrients to Australia, including Coenzyme Q10, Lipoic Acid, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Glucosamine, and 5-HTP, many of which have become staples in complementary medicine today. His commitment to quality saw him co-establish a manufacturing company to meet his exacting standards, helping to raise the bar industry-wide.
A prolific educator and communicator, Henry dedicated his career to empowering healthcare professionals. He lectured extensively across Australia and internationally, developed university and practitioner courses, and authored numerous influential texts — including the widely used The Nutrient Bible, now in its ninth edition. His passion for accessible, science-backed education led to the creation of the Bio Concepts Education Centre in 2013, an industry-first online learning platform that continues to benefit practitioners around the clock.
Henry’s contributions were recognised by his peers, including receiving CMA’s prestigious Lady Cilento Award in 2018, as well as multiple accolades for his outstanding contributions to education, research, and training.
His legacy lives on through Bio Concepts, now led by his son, Dr. Michael Osiecki, and through the generations of practitioners and patients whose lives have been improved by his work. Above all, Henry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to advancing natural healthcare, his generosity of spirit, and his belief in the power of science to change lives.
