The Supplement: 24 April 2024

CMA’s Innovation Day is fast approaching, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you there on 7 May in Sydney.

I’m thrilled to announce that the finalised full speaker program is now available – which you can find here – so you can start planning your day.

Our team worked hard to curate an insightful and dynamic program around this year’s theme, The Science of Self Care, and the comprehensive lineup promises plenty of interesting discussions and learnings, as well as valuable networking opportunities. In particular, we’re looking forward to hearing from Ali Alaraji from the TGA, who will be speaking about the new AUST L(A) evidence guidelines, which I trust will provide more clarity to industry.

Registration of Foreign Food Manufacturing Facilities

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a new order (April 2024) related to requirements for the registration of foreign food manufacturing facilities, and that the relevant overseas manufacturers must be registered by 31 August 2024. CMA provided DAFF/TGA with all the required information for contract manufacturers to be registered with the FSSAI prior to 1 February 2023 which was the original enforcement date (Ref: India update: 21 Nov 202223 Nov 2022). Despite this, on the FSSAI website, we are able to confirm only the listing of relevant brands, not contract manufacturers. Industry is concerned that if the manufacturers are not listed, their products may be held up at customs post August.

Given we have only 3 months until the new deadline of 31 August 2024, CMA has raised our concern with the Australian High Commission in India and asked them for ongoing communication with the FSSAI to ensure that our contract manufacturers’ information will be listed on their website by the deadline. We will keep members updated on this and other India issues such as the progress with the India CECA negotiations and the possible changes concerning the nutraceutical regulatory bodies in India.

Third pathway: Malaysia’s new ‘modern claims’ system could drive more clinical research and business

The introduction of a new ‘modern claims’ system in Malaysia has been welcomed by industry players as it could drive more clinical research, expand new product options for consumers, and open local and international market opportunities.
